Announcement on behalf of Wakefield City Academies Trust's Board of Directors

8th September 2017

Dear Parents / Carers,

I am writing to inform you of a very important decision that has been taken, after much deliberation, by the Board of the Wakefield City Academies Trust, the multi academy trust of which Hemsworth Arts & Community Academy is part.

The new Board, which has been in place since July 2016, has undertaken a comprehensive review of the entire operation of the Trust; and in particular its capacity to facilitate and support school improvement. The Board has been supported in this task by an experienced CEO. The outcomes of the review have been considered carefully by the Board and it has come to the conclusion that the Trust does not have the capacity to secure the rapid improvement required in the majority of its academies. Consequently it has requested the DfE work with it to place all the academies with new sponsor trusts as soon as possible.

In the meantime arrangements are being made to ensure that all academies are provided with high quality school improvement support. I would like to reassure you that the course of action being taken is in our students’ best interests and will have a rapid and positive impact on their education provision. As soon as Hemsworth Arts & Community Academy’s new sponsor trust has been confirmed I am sure it will contact you as will I.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Pickering

Interim CEO

Wakefield City Academies Trust
