United Kingdom Mathematics Trust- Maths Challenge

Congratulations to all those students that participated in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge in February 2016. Top set mathematicians in year 9, 10 and 11 participated in this event which encourages pupils to think for themselves and develop critical reasoning.

We feel that these events are extremely beneficial to our students as the importance of teaching mathematical reasoning and problem-solving are becoming heavily emphasised in recent curriculum changes. We believe that the maths challenge allows pupils to do exactly that. The maths challenge helps to inspire and develop an interest in mathematics amongst our pupils.

Our results from this challenge have being both motivating and inspiring. Overall we achieved 27 Bronze Awards and 6 Silver Awards. These are impressive and remarkable results for both Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy and all of the pupils involved. A big well done to our pupils, we look forward to expanding the number of students involved in the maths challenge in the near future.
